Romania to go
When I was 18 and the holiday was coming, the whole “gang” teamed up and bought an “en route” train ticket that we used to travel across the whole country. We hopped in the train, looked on the window and went down where we felt like! We stamped the ticket and then went further. And so I saw the Moldavian’s monasteries, the Maramures and the most beautiful cities of our country.
The Revolution arrived afterwards and time lost its patience. “Locked” in my studio it was the time to live my urban illusion of “capitalism”. Around 2000s, as I started to comprehend globalization’s mechanisms, the yearning for wandering returned. I thought to begin with farther spots, thinking that the closer destinations can wait.
In 2012 I was commissioned by an advertising company to work on a marketing campaign to promote Romanian tourism values. It’s been a whole year in which I wandered the country. I took my photos, I finished editing and I taught the material. However the photos you will see below are other than those requested. Here you can see my “20 year” view on Romania today; the rustic Romania with people yet unconquered by the market or drugged by the social-media and internet. Romania to go.
